My name is Ting-Hsuan Lin. I am a senior studying marketing at Washington State University. I made a life-altering decision following middle school to attend a junior college program versus a traditional high school. I recalled a sense of uncertainty at the time about my career goals so I chose to pursue this type of education that placed me on a track with more emphasis on a trade occupation.

I was graduated from Hsing-Wu University at 2013. I was actively explore the possibilities of my future career when I was a freshman in Hsing-Wu. I joined the Pop-dancing club and served as the executive secretary. Through the process of promoting and executing the events, I gradually opened up my interest in the field of marketing. During my junior year, I participated in a national project contest that influenced my decision to pursue a profession in marketing. Our project premise was presenting business development tactics and techniques Apple implemented to gain market share against competitors and influence a loyal audience to continue purchasing its products. Our team spent four months completing the project. We implemented social media questionnaires to collect sample data from Apple users, and also surveyed the eighteen to fifty-year-old segment offline outside of a highly trafficked Apple authorized seller. The largest personal challenge of the competition was overcoming the fear of public speaking and developing a presence on stage to create a lasting impact on the audience. The experience allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and made me passionate about marketing and how effective it can be when done correctly.
This passion carried me through my business administration studies at WSU where I enjoyed a deeper understanding of marketing topics both inside and outside of the classroom. For example, I learned that marketing techniques are constantly evolving and changing depending on economic conditions. Such change is important to understand for business owners so they can properly allocate resources to suit current market conditions and is an area that interests me to pursue. Moreover, in a marketing research class, I conducted research on the gender effect of cosmetic product advertisements. From designing experiments to analyzing data, I learned market research and analysis through many different ways to collect information on consumers, competitors, and product markets. Understanding the target customer group and their acceptance of current or potential products helps managers to formulate marketing strategies and improve current consumer processes. In addition, in the entrepreneurial marketing course, my two team members and I created our own brand; PoCoSETS. We designed our brand logo and website ourselves and use Adobe XD to create our application prototype. We also launched two Google Ads and social media campaign to introduce our app. Outside the classroom, I continue to learn by myself and use Illustrator, Photoshop, Procreate and other software in classroom projects. In the long run, I hope to use the marketing knowledge and my previous experience I have gained to help companies achieve stable growth.
